GO TRAIN AND METROLINX -- TOXIC OR TERRIFIC?
The government of Canada and Ontario have proposed to put between 350 and 415 diesel trains per day running through the Georgetown corridor affecting residential neighbourhoods such as the Junction, Brockton Triangle, and Weston among others. An environmental assessment is underway to measure the impact of the proposed trains. Once that process has cleared, Metrolinx has stated that the shovels will go in the ground by the end of this year.
What does this mean to you and your family?
It means more noise, vibration, disruption and pollution.
It’s very understandable that this proposal is being met with opposition from local residents from Brocton who will be directly affected by the trains. One resident whose house abuts on the tracks says, “ When I sit in my living room to play with my grandchildren and a train goes by, it’s so loud I want to yell , ‘go away train!’. I can’t imagine what it will be like when the trains start running every 4 minutes. Unbearable!”

Residents are not opposing the number of trains passing through the corridor, but instead are advocating the electrification of trains. The Clean Train Coalition of Brockton village spokeperson says, "Our message is a positive message. We're trying to avoid being painted NIMBY," said Malinsky. "I'm ready to accept 400 trains in my backyard; I'm not ready to accept 400 diesel trains."
